Technique:

An imaging sequence closely related to EPI imaging is spiral k-space imaging, which also utilizes rapidly switching gradients. In spiral k-space imaging, the X and Y gradients are oscillated 90 degrees out of phase with each other and k-space is filled in a spiral fashion, with the central views acquired first, with the advantages of decreased motion sensitivity and disadvantage of being sensitive to susceptibility artifacts. Multi-shot spiral k-space imaging utilizes multiple spiral trajectories and achieves higher spatial resolution.
